through the looking glass

Talk about capitalizing on a movement. Wow. Microsoft is going big on it’s Looking Glass project. I found out about it through Advertising Age.

Basically, Looking Glass will be a social media aggregator for business to track impressions or *cou-conversation-gh*. It’s obviously too early to tell if this will be successful or useful but the implications are massive.

Many a vowel-free-domain company has been trying to do this for a couple years now. To make social media actionable is the goal of 90% of the social media “experts” and 100% of forward-thinking business.

The tool (or similar) is a big step toward turning social media from the trendy revolution into the brand-awareness spreading platform it really is. It hasn’t changed how we do things, just made things faster, more accessible.

Business will be more likely to adopt full strategies that involve social tools. Social media “experts” will have to find another little-known tactic to jump on. The sun will shine brighter and the air will be cleaner (probably not).

Should Microsoft be the one to get it right? That just sounds wrong, no? ::shudder::

Again, it’s far too early to tell. But with something endorsed by a large corporation (that most companies still rely on), social tools gain credibility and use for trepidatious companies.
